GoPro Camera Got Swallowed By Lava And Recorded The Entire Thing

Modern technology has advanced beyond imagination. They have been developed into gadgets that can sustain through severe weather conditions and catastrophes. Environmental exploration guide Erik Storm, of Kilauea EcoGuides, a tour group based in the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park found this out after he left his GoPro on the slow crawling lava pat. He was amazed to find out that the device kept recording despite all the heat and pressure.

His intention was to capture the fiery madness of floating lava and he left his camera in a small crevice, but the lava engulfed the camera. It has a protective casing on, and Eric watched as his camera was consumed by lava. When he recovered the device, he discovered that its SD card had survived the lava, and the GoPro kept filming the entire time.

“I used a geology rock hammer to pull it out of the lava and thought it was a total loss. Not only had most of the camera survived, but it had managed to record everything and was still working” he said.

According to the GoPro company helpdesk, when the operational temperatures rise above 125 F (51.7 C), most of the cameras shut off. But this did not happen this time. The camera does not work like it used to; but it is incredible that plastic casting was strong enough to survive the heat and the pressure of the lava.

Eric added “The camera even still worked although not as well as it did before. Truly amazing it survived!”

Here is the footage captured by the camera. This video will leave you marveling at the universe, as well as the advancements of modern technology that let us revel in the magnificence of the universe.
